Five Brocade Publishing has as its purpose the publication of instructional materials on Transpersonal Cognitive Skills Training created by the psychiatrist Dr. William Pryatel. These materials constitute a step-by-step introduction to Dr. Pryatel's unique approach to mental therapy, which melds together the concepts and techniques of Western psychiatry with those of Eastern philosophy and esoteric teachings.
Dr. Pryatel's long-time involvement with Buddhism included participation in several vipassana meditation retreats at the Insight Meditation Society at Barre, Massachusetts, from 1985 through 1995. It was there that he learned the key concepts and practices that went into the DVD, Mindfulness as Therapy. For a short time, Dr. Pryatel was also a novice monk at the Houston Buddhist vihara.
The materials offered on this website consist of Dr. Pryatel's latest book as well as a series of DVDs. These materials were designed as a teaching tool for licensed therapists and counselors, and those who teach under their direction, to help them instruct their patients and clients how to use the specific concepts and techniques presented therein - mindfulness, for example - as a therapeutic tool. If you are a therapist or counselor, the information contained in these materials can help your clients and patients learn how to unravel their neuroses and addictions.
Caution: Use these materials only as directed by your counselor or therapist. They are not intended for self-treatment of mental illness, absent a therapist.
To order any of the materials, please use the "Order" links below, which will take you to the appropriate page at Amazon.com. Disclaimer. Due to medical liability concerns, the ordering of our DVDs is limited to adults only (18 years old or above).

Cognitive Strategies for Suicide Prevention, Addiction And Anxiety
There are a number of techniques that can be employed to establish and reinforce newer adaptive pathways of thinking. It's not for everybody and should not be used exclusively, but first and foremost among techniques is mindfulness. The author has seen it work again and again. Introduced to the world by Buddha for the purpose of enlightenment, nowadays it is used for mental health issues. The mindfulness here is different from the type taught in DBT. The author is not saying that DBT mindfulness doesn't work; it's just that he has seen better outcomes with the type he teaches. He learned the basics of it at IMS at Barre, Massachusetts, during various meditation retreats. Modern psychology does not address the invisible spiritual worlds that interface with the physical world. According to religious teachings, these worlds really exist and forces from them can influence our thinking. Reportedly, an archangel rebelled against God and was booted out of heaven. A third of the angels went down with him to earth. They seek to have us act in such a way so that when we die, they can claim our souls and torture us in hell. The present work at least addresses this issue. Likewise, energy medicine is discussed briefly.

Transpersonal Cognitive Skills Training I:
|
"Mindfulness really has changed my life, and I teach it to my friends now... It is fascinating how mindfulness works. When I first arrived here I used poor me-isms, and martyrisms a lot, but now I have put it in the past. I have healed from using martyrism and poor me-isms. You made me aware so I could battle my problem, nobody else has helped me how you have, I have talked to lots of people, and they treated me like an animal, but I feel you truly cared enough to give me a second chance, you taught me right from wrong, brought me out of denial, anger, frustrations, and showed me tools, adjusted medications, and listened.... Thank you for your help."
